Shabat Shuva ….. / Yom Kippur…

by Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin | Sept 14, 2026 | Weekly Message

This coming Shabbat 18/19th September is called Shabbat SHUVA / TESHUVAH, named after (a) the first words of the Haftorah read. (b) as we are now in the midst of the TEN days of Teshuvah between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

We read the portion of Ha’azinu – The Poem of Testimony, that G-d taught moses and instructed Moses to share with the Jewish People. This portion is said by Moshe hours before his passing.

YOM KIPPUR – Day of Atonement.

Yom Kippur begins on Sunday evening 20th September through to night fall on Monday the 21st September. This is a 24 hour fast, concluding the 10 days of Teshuvah / Repentance, during which we focus our attention on strengthening our close relationship with G-d. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year, when we are closest to G-d and to our soul’s essence.

Yom Kippur means the “day of atonement”, this means Divine forgiveness, wiping away all transgressions. The Torah says, “For on this day He will forgive you, cleansing you from all of your sins; you will be purified before G-d.”

For prayer services on this special day, check our website, where a very warm welcome awaits you at one of our Essex Chabad Centre services.

Wishing you a Healthy happy contented New Year.

With prayers for peace in Israel, the world over and our IDF soldiers.

Simply Chabad Essex.

Our current Chabad

We currently run 5 community houses and synagogues working simultaneously across the region. Offering many study programmes, daily Minyan and Shabbat services, Youth and Adult programmes and so much more.
