Our community is evolving.

Following the very full and exciting month of Tishrei, during which we celebrated The Jewish New Year – Rosh Hashanah, the Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur, Tabernacles – Sukkot and Simchat Torah, we now begin the cycle of reading from the Torah once again from the Beginning.

Bereishit – In the beginning, the six days of creation followed by Shabbat, G-d’s day of rest.

​

G-d said, “let there be light,” and there was light (1:3).

​

G-d seeks “partners” in His ongoing re – creation of the world. Thus, whenever we take upon ourselves to begin some project intended to promote holiness, goodness, and Divine consciousness  into the world, we should remember that we are G-d’s emissaries in this endeavour, acting on His behalf.

​

Hence, just as when G-d created the world, all seemed antithetical to the Divine. It was void, chaotic and dark, so might it appear as our efforts in our own project to bring the Divine down unfold. Yet just as on the first day of G-d’s creation light broke through the darkness and illuminated the world, so too with the right determination we can bring the Divine consciousness down to earth revealing His essence and presence through our efforts.

Having commemorated the third anniversary of the horrors of the 7th October this week, we pray for the souls of the departed, comfort for their families and an everlasting peace across Israel and the whole world.
